The ear consists of three parts:
Outer Ear - The outer ear includes the external ear and the ear canal. Its purpose is to collect sound.
Middle Ear - The middle ear includes the eardrum and the three middle ear bones. The middle ear amplifies sound.
Inner Ear - The inner ear includes the cochlea(the hearing organ) and the hearing nerve. In the inner ear, sound is converted into nerve impulses that are sent to the brain.
